The P220 was introduced as the first installment in SIG’s 220 line. Initially chambered in both 9mm and .45 ACP, the P220 later switched to being a .45 ACP only handgun, and it is currently only offered in the .45 ACP caliber. The P220 was essentially the successor to the P210. It has a double action single action trigger mode with a decocker lever located on the side of the frame that should be easy for the user’s finger or thumb to reach. Standard magazine capacity is 8 rounds.
The P220 is currently still being made today with improved ergonomics and a tactical rail located on the frame for adding lights and lasers. The old 9mm version is still serving as the main service handgun of the Japanese military.
