Colonel Stanton said this quote when American troops first landed on the Western Front in 1917, during World War I. Up until then, America had remained neutral in the war and the conflict was being evenly fought with Britain and France on one side and Germany on the other in the Western Front. With the arrival of American forces, however, the tide slanted significantly in favor of the Allies and gave them a vast numerical superiority. That’s why this quote is so significant, because it made clear that the American forces had arrive to help win the war with Britain and France.
